Explore the Noosa Hinterland towns
Each town within the Noosa hinterland offers a different experience; so we suggest starting at the Heart of the Hinterland, Cooroy. Explore country pubs like the Kin Kin Hotel and cafes like Pomona Village Kitchen before making your way to the Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre. Just outside of town, you’ll find the Noosa Botanic Gardens, complete with an amphitheatre set alongside Lake MacDonald.
Next, continue to the town of Pomona; nestled at the foot of Mount Cooroora. Here, you can visit the Majestic Theatre, the oldest silent theatre, while enjoying panoramic views of the hillside.
Trail networks
For the ambitious, Mt Cooroora offers a climbing experience for the bold, consisting of 439m high volcanic rock. Previously home to the iconic 44-year-old King of the Mountain race, which has ended due to deteriorating track conditions and stricter permit requirements. The community spirit will continue through the Pomona Family Fun Day.
Or if a relaxing walk is more your style, head to Kin Kin, where you’ll find the head of the Noosa Trail Network. Providing trails for horse riding, mountain biking, and walking. Jumpstart your walk with a meal in the town’s gourmet restaurants and pubs while enjoying a vibrant local art scene.
In October, people can join The Great Noosa Trail Walk to explore Cooroy, Kin Kin, Cooran, and Pomona. They can walk at their speed, enjoy beautiful trails, experience local culture, and meet friendly locals. This event offers different places to stay and a helpful team of volunteers. You will experience the beauty and charm of the Noosa area.
National parks
Head to Doonan to experience the edges of the Tewantin National Park and Lake Weyba. Kayaks make for an amazing site of reflections in the water – a birdwatcher and photographer’s dream. Before leaving the Noosa Hinterland, stop in Cooran for a spot of bushwalking; ending in a splash at some cooling swimming holes. Perfect for an afternoon dip before completing the day with sunset views at the Cooran Tablelands Lookout.
